Asus is a top brand in gaming laptops. It’s on par with Alienware and other industry giants. Taiwanese manufacturer Asus offers a range of products for all budgets, from entry-level models and powerhouses with the most recent GPU and processor technology.
Despite its top-of-the-line specs the ROG Strix Scar 16 is a portable machine. Its 17-inch display has an 144Hz to 240Hz refresh rate, and comes with 1080p resolution, which is high enough for an immersive experience. Its battery lasts for 6-8 hours of mixed use, and its fans don’t become too loud, even under load.
The Scar 16’s design features some gamer aesthetics, but isn’t excessively flashy. Its most notable characteristic is its prismatic lid, which catches light and shines it through tiny holes in the size of 8,279 to create a rainbow-like look. The laptop’s display pivot lifts the chassis back which increases airflow. It also slopes the keyboard toward you. Asus calls it the ErgoLift hinge.
This laptop is ideal for gaming, but can also handle other processing-intensive tasks like editing video or image manipulation. It has plenty of ports – USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, HDMI 2.0b, 3.5mm combo jack and Gigabit Ethernet — as well as an SD card slot that is dedicated to. The speakers are loud, but they can distort and sound shrill at high volumes. You’ll want to pair them with headphones. The only downside is some minor unwanted software that you’ll need to get rid of such as McAfee Personal Security and the Dolby App.
